Padmini Murthy is Professor and Global Health Director at the School of Health Sciences and Practice at New York Medical College. She is also Secretary-General of the Medical Women’s International Association and Chair-Elect of the International Health Section at the American Public Health Association.

Globally, women bear the burden of disease disproportionately and face premature death due to gender-based inequities; these negative indicators are reflected in discrepancies with regard to access to basic health care services, nutrition and educational opportunities.
