The Secretary-General expresses his concern over the renewed wave of arrests of high ranking public officials in Mali at a time when numerous efforts are being undertaken to assist the country in overcoming the various challenges it is facing.  The Secretary-General calls for the immediate release of all those arrested and urges the junta to refrain from any further actions that might undermine the effective restoration of constitutional rule in the country.  These arrests are in contrast to other welcome developments that constitute important steps towards the full return to constitutional order, such as the appointment of Mr. Dioncounda Traoré as interim President of Mali and his decision to nominate Mr. Cheick Modibo Diarra as the interim Prime Minister.   The Secretary-General calls for the military junta to promptly complete the full transfer of power to civilian rule.

Déclaration attribuable au porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur le Mali
 
Le Secrétaire général exprime sa préoccupation face à la nouvelle vague d'arrestations de responsables publics de haut rang au Mali alors que de nombreux efforts sont en cours pour aider le pays à relever les différents défis auxquels il est confronté. Le Secrétaire général appelle à la libération immédiate de toutes les personnes détenues et demande à la junte de s'abstenir de toute autre action susceptible de compromettre le retour effectif à l'ordre constitutionnel dans le pays. Ces arrestations vont à l'encontre de récents développements encourageants qui constituent des pas importants vers le retour complet de l'ordre constitutionnel tels la nomination de M. Dioncounda Traoré en tant que Président par intérim du Mali et sa décision de désigner M. Cheick Modibo Diarra comme Premier ministre de transition. Le Secrétaire général appelle la junte militaire à conclure rapidement le transfert total du pouvoir aux autorités civiles.
