Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the Elections in Haiti [scroll down for French]

The Secretary-General is concerned following the incidents that marked the first round of the presidential and legislative elections in Haiti on Sunday, 28 November 2010.

The Secretary-General looks forward to a solution to the political crisis in the country and calls on the Haitian people and all political actors to remain calm, since any deterioration in the security situation will have an immediate impact on the efforts to contain the ongoing cholera epidemic.

sur les éléctions en Haïti

Le Secrétaire général exprime sa préoccupation suite aux incidents qui ont émaillé le déroulement du premier tour des élections présidentielles et législatives dimanche, 28 novembre 2010.

Le Secrétaire général souhaite une résolution de la crise politique dans le pays et exhorte le peuple haïtien ainsi que l'ensemble des acteurs politiques à rester calmes, étant donné qu'une éventuelle détérioration de la situation sécuritaire aurait des conséquences immédiates sur les efforts pour contenir l'épidémie de choléra.
