Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Idriss Déby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Idriss Déby Itno, President of the Republic of Chad. They discussed the latest developments in the region.

The Secretary-General welcomed Chad’s efforts to counter the threat posed by Boko Haram, acknowledging that the effort should be supported by the international community. They agreed that the frequency of terrorist attacks across the region underscored the importance of strengthening regional security cooperation while tackling the root causes of this complex phenomenon.

President Déby reiterated Chad’s commitment to continue working with the United Nations for the greater good of the African Union. He called on the international community to use all means to solve the Libyan crisis and tackle the terrorist groups operating in the country.

The Secretary-General also commended Chad’s role in the support of the climate change agenda and strong commitment to the sustainable development goals.
