Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Mariano Rajoy Brey, Prime Minister of Spain

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Mariano Rajoy, the Prime Minister of Spain.
The Secretary-General commended the Prime Minister for Spain’s leadership on the women, peace and security agenda. He expressed appreciation for Spain’s support to United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, particularly in Lebanon, as well as for hosting the organization’s Support Base in Valencia. He underscored Spain’s role in conflict prevention and mediation.
The Secretary-General and Mr. Rajoy discussed the crises in Syria, Libya as well as other conflicts in Africa. They also talked about the flow of migrants and refugees into Europe.
The Secretary-General thanked Spain for its leadership in the lead up to the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They highlighted progress towards achieving an universal agreement on climate change in Paris in December 2015.
