The Secretary-General met today with Gordon Brown, United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, in the margin of the Oslo Summit on Education for Development.  The Secretary-General commended the establishment of a Commission on Financing Global Education, which will be led by Mr Brown.

The Secretary-General and Gordon Brown also discussed the huge challenges faced by the humanitarian system and underlined the importance of ensuring the education of children living in emergencies. They noted the potential role that philanthropists could play in funding global education efforts.
