Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway

The Secretary-General met with H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon of Norway today. He lauded Norway’s crucial role towards reaching a meaningful, universal agreement on climate change in Paris in December 2015. He thanked Norway for arranging his visit to Svalbard in the Arctic to see first-hand the effects of climate change.

The Secretary-General also thanked the Crown Prince for Norway’s strong support for sustainable development, calling on the country to continue its leadership role in delivering on the post-2015 agenda. In this context, the Secretary-General stressed the importance of financing to meet the aspirations of the ambitious climate and sustainable development agendas.

The Secretary-General and Crown Prince Haakon also discussed the importance of education for development and welcomed the establishment of the Commission on Financing Global Education.
