The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Ms. Frances Fitzgerald, Minister for Justice and Equality of Ireland.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General and Minister Fitzgerald discussed the challenges and complexities of burgeoning migration flows and refugee protection around the world, including through the Mediterranean. They agreed on the need for a comprehensive, collective and rights-based response, which addresses the immediate symptoms as well as root causes.
The Secretary-General lauded Ireland's long-standing commitment to refugee resettlement and its Syrian Humanitarian Admission Programme.
