Note to Correspondents on Yemen

Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed has started his first visit to Yemen in his capacity as Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Yemen in order to support the efforts of United Nations' humanitarian agencies to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and to ensure that the humanitarian truce and cease-fire provide the appropriate atmosphere for a revived political process that serves the interests of the Yemeni people and achieves their aspirations for restoring the rule of law, state institutions and fundamental freedoms.

The Special Envoy will be holding broad consultations with all political entities and groupings, civil society as well as youth and women’s representatives in order to consider ways to resume political talks under the auspices of the United Nations as soon as possible.
