Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Sergio Mattarella, President of Italy

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Sergio Mattarella, President of Italy. The Secretary-General highlighted Italy’s important contributions to the United Nations, including in peacekeeping operations as well as its support for the United Nations presence in Rome, Brindisi and Turin.

The Secretary-General and the President discussed the situation in Libya and the need to find a political solution to the crisis. The Secretary-General also briefed the President on the work of Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan De Mistura. They also exchanged views on migration, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals and Climate Change.
