The Secretary-General met today with Mr. Katsuya Okada, President of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ).

They discussed United Nations reform; disarmament, including the upcoming Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) review conference; peacekeeping; and the situations in Ukraine and Syria.

The Secretary-General commended Japan for its efforts over the past four years to learn the lessons from the 2011 Fukushima accident and to support efforts to strengthen nuclear safety globally.
