Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Edgar Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Edgar Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, on the margins of the African Union Summit, today in Addis Ababa.

The Secretary-General congratulated the President on his election. The Secretary-General encouraged the President to pursue the country’s development agenda, particularly on the empowerment of women and youth.

They exchanged views, among others, on the promotion of human rights, the post-2015 development agenda and the challenges of sustainable development being faced by the Landlocked Developing Countries, including Zambia.

They also discussed the need to prevent child, early and forced marriages which adversely affect the advancement of women.
