The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Michel Kafando, Transitional President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso.
The Secretary-General commended the transitional authorities on their determination to keep the transitional process on track and to hold elections in a timely manner. He underscored the commitment of the United Nations to provide Burkina Faso with electoral assistance.
The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Burkina Faso’s contribution to UN peacekeeping operations. He called on the Transitional Government to continue supporting the Mali peace negotiations. The two leaders also discussed the importance of effective implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action for Landlocked Developing Countries.
