Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Salvador Sánchez Cerén, President of El Salvador

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Salvador Sánchez Cerén, President of El Salvador. They discussed the inclusive dialogue structure put in place by the President and the work of the National Council on Citizen Security and Coexistence. They also addressed economic and human rights issues, particularly the need for greater women’s empowerment, as well as the Government’s recently launched five-year development plan. The Secretary-General congratulated the President on the election of El Salvador to the Human Rights Council. They also addressed key issues in the global agenda such as climate change, the post-2015 development agenda and mechanisms of financing for development.
