The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Sir Jerry Mateparae, Governor-General of New Zealand. The Secretary-General appreciated New Zealand’s contribution to United Nations peacekeeping and significant support to the Third Conference on Small Island Developing States. They discussed New Zealand’s important role in the upcoming World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, to take place on the margins of the 69th General Assembly in September 2014. The Secretary-General and Governor-General Mateparae also exchanged views on recent developments in Ukraine, Iraq, the Middle East and South Sudan.
