Preparation

The 2023 SDG Summit focused on people. It culminated 10 months of active preparations involving governments, the UN system and other international and regional organizations, the private sector, NGOs, youth, cities, and multiple other actors and people.

The annual meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council from 10 to 19 July 2023 in New York will contribute to the preparations of the SDG Summit. The theme of 2023 HLPF was “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels”.

The preparations of the Summit also included:

• At the national level, the voluntary national reviews (VNRs) of Member States
• Regional Forums on Sustainable Development to be held by the United Nations regional commissions from February to April 2023 will discuss preparations for the Summit at the regional level.
• Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR)
• Report of the Secretary-General on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, and other reports and background papers to be prepared by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the UN system. For more information, click here
• Outcomes from various meetings and forums, including ECOSOC segments, ECOSOC Partnership Forum, ECOSOC Youth Forum, Financing for Development Forum, and Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs(STI Forum)
• The inputs of the UN system and other intergovernmental bodies and forums and stakeholders to the HLPF
