Message from the Chairman of the Panel
Mr. Michael Ferguson,
Chair of the Panel
Mr. Amyas Morse,
Vice-Chair of the Panel
I have the honour of being recently elected as Chairman of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors and welcome this opportunity to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences among the external auditors of the UN entities. I extend my gratitude to the former Chair of the Panel, Mr. Shashi Kant Sharma, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for his excellent work.
As auditors, we are pleased to note that the United Nations and specialized agencies have adopted an international accounting framework, recognized by the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, as the accounting framework to follow. This was a significant undertaking by all affected entities that we have supported since its conception. We look forward to working with management to ensure the benefits of this improved financial reporting framework continue to be realized.
As stated by my predecessor, we believe that the United Nations and its agencies have a fundamental interest in managing themselves in a way that supports good governance and transparency. We seek to contribute to this goal by providing independent opinions on ways in which they can improve their efficiency and their accountability.
I look forward to my term as Chairman and the opportunity to continue to work with all members of the Panel.
Michael Ferguson, FCA
Auditor General of Canada
Chairman of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors
