Secretary-General approves Distribution Plan for Phase XII

13 June 2002

On 13 June 2002, the Secretary-General advised the President of the Security Council of his approval of the distribution plan for phase XII, submitted by the Government of Iraq on 10 June 2002, pursuant to Security Council resolution 1409 (2002), dated 14 May 2002.

The distribution plan forecasts a humanitarian budget of over $5.08 billion, allocated among 25 sectors countrywide, including $600 million for oil industry spare parts and equipment and an allocation of almost $355 million to meet the needs of especially vulnerable groups. Over $1.27 billion are earmarked for food supplies, while $150 million are set aside for the purchase of medicines and medical supplies. The plan indicates allocations for 10 new sectors, namely, constructions, industry, labour & social affairs, Board of Youth & Sports, information, culture, religious affairs, justice, finance, Central Bank of Iraq.
