Luiza Muzzi Almeida is a reporter for O Tempo, a daily based in Minas Gerais. She has covered issues ranging from local to national politics, elections, political corruption, health, education, the environment and urban mobility. In 2016, Almeida won the Delio Rocha Award for Public Interest Journalism for her coverage of the collapse of the Bento Rodrigues dam in the city of Mariana, the largest environmental disaster in Brazil's history. Through her reporting, Almeida strives to give voice to those who are frequently overlooked by politicians, the government, or even their own communities. At the United Nations, she is interested in covering global initiatives on women's empowerment, gender equality, human rights, migration and social inequality.
