International Women's Day is a celebration of women's empowerment, and a day to recommit to our shared vision of an inclusive, equal and just society.
The universal Sustainable Development Goals enshrined in the 2030 Agenda are our promise to fulfil this vision and leave no one behind. This requires removing obstacles and dismantling structural inequalities and injustices that hold back women and girls, and millions of others. It requires the participation of women in building peaceful, stable, and prosperous societies across the globe.
As DESA strengthens its leadership role to respond to the new demands of the 2030 Agenda, let us work towards these efforts to foster opportunities, inclusive development and shared prosperity so that they can be enjoyed equally by women and men, girls and boys, everywhere.
On this International Women’s Day, I wish to acknowledge the dedication of all staff for your commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, and I also wish to thank staff who are actively engaged in efforts to ensure gender parity within the organization.
