The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs is organizing its second annual film competition to highlight how people and organizations around the world are taking action for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Festival was launched by DESA’s Division for SDGs in 2018 in connection with the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development that takes place each July at UN Headquarters in New York. The free competition offers amateur and professional filmmakers around the globe the chance to submit short animated or live-action films that showcase a person or project working on tangible solutions to the world’s biggest threats and making the SDGs our reality. Whether you use a professional camera or just your mobile phone, if your film has a good message and tells a good story, it could be selected.

The selected filmmakers in each category will have the chance to come to UN Headquarters in New York and show their film at the SDGs in Action Film Festival to be held on the evening of 11 July. DESA is also coordinating a storytelling workshop for the filmmakers to share good practices about advocacy filmmaking featuring guests from the UN system and film/TV production studios.
