CHRIST University, India, the UN Academic Impact SDG 5 Hub Chair for Gender Equality, held an event on 26 July 2025 titled “Voices of Equality.” The full day gathering brought university faculty and students together with social activists, government officials, UN representatives, corporate leaders, and civil society representatives. The programme highlighted the central role of gender equality in achieving SDG 5 and fostered collaboration between academia, civil society, and industry, creating a shared platform for dialogue and action.

Activist and social advocate Brinda Adige reminded participants that “Equality is a constitutional right, not a concession,” prompting a moment of reflection across the room. Dr. Jija Hari Singh, the now retired first female officer from South- India in the Indian Police Service, shared her remarkable journey, noting that “Every barrier we break is a step toward a freer future.” Her remarks resonated strongly with participants and underscored the importance of persistent efforts toward achieving gender equality.
