UNAI member institution the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) in Dourados, MS, Brazil held the 5th Sustainability Seminar from 4 to 6 June 2025 to highlight UFGD's commitment to sustainability and the importance of concrete actions for a more balanced future in which development and preservation go hand in hand.
The seminar featured lectures such as:
- "Bioceanic Route and Sustainability: Connecting Countries, Preserving the Future", by Dr. Mario Gustavo Leiva Enrique from the Universidad Nacional de Asunción (UNA/Paraguay)
- "Preservation of the Culture of Traditional Peoples and Sustainability", by Geography PhD indigenous candidate Anastácio Peralta Ava Kwarahy Rendyju (UFGD/Brazil)
- "Bioceanic Route: Challenges and Opportunities", by Dr. Eduardo Luis Casarotto (UFGD/Brazil)

The roundtable discussion addressed the theme “Bioceanic Route: Challenges and Opportunities”, moderated by Professor Dr. Déborah Silva (UFGD) do Monte and included the participation of the Rector Dr. Jones Dari Goettert (UFGD), Dr. Fábio Júlio Aparecido (Anhanguera), Dr. Ruberval Franco Maciel (UEMS), and Dr. Mario Gustavo Leiva Enrique (UNA/Py).
The 5th Sustainability Seminar was coordinated by Dr. Kátia Cristina Zanatta of the Environmental Management Division. Attendees included 155 people from the UFGD internal and external community, including academics, professors, professionals, and civil society. The seminar is part of the activities planned in the UFGD Environmental Education Program and included 22 oral presentations of scientific papers, 3 thematic lectures, and 1 roundtable discussion.
