The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Somsavat Lengsavad, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, while in Busan for the 4th High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness.
The two leaders discussed UN-Laos cooperation, the UN-ASEAN partnership and Myanmar, as well as global challenges including achieving the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development.
The Secretary-General commended the Government of Laos for its progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals, notably in improving child survival. He urged the Government to make renewed efforts to improve maternal health and expand access to safe water and sanitation.
