The Secretary-General met today in Abuja, Nigeria, with Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He commended him and his staff for organizing credible presidential, legislative and gubernatorial elections.
The Secretary-General noted that national and international observers had declared these elections a significant improvement from past elections. He also noted that some observers had raised concerns about a number of issues, and said he was confident that the INEC would look into these matters and address them promptly and transparently.
