Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. King Abdullah II of Jordan and he thanked Jordan for so generously hosting Syrian refugees and stressed the importance of ensuring that border crossings remain open for all refugees.

The Secretary General expressed deep concern about the security threats posed by extremist elements from Syria and Iraq.

On the Middle East Peace Process, the Secretary-General stressed the importance of a return to negotiations for a two-State solution. He thanked Jordan for its important role as custodian of the Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem.

Finally the Secretary-General referred to the 70th General Assembly General Debate’s focus on the Sustainable Development Goals, and asked for Jordan’s support in translating these goals into action and national programmes.
