The Secretary-General met today with Vice President Danilo Astori of Uruguay. The Secretary-General thanked Uruguay for its significant support to the UN agenda, including nuclear disarmament and peacekeeping operations.
The Secretary-General and the Vice President discussed a variety of issues of common concern including the Middle East Peace Process, climate change and disaster risk reduction. The Secretary-General welcomed the commitment of UNASUR to social inclusion and poverty reduction and hoped the region would continue to work closely with the United Nations.
