Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with the Defense Minister of Germany

The Secretary-General met today with German Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere. The Secretary-General stressed the value of German support to UN peace operations, including in Lebanon and Sudan. The Secretary-General and the Defense Minister had an extensive discussions on Afghanistan, including issues related to transition as well as security concerns. They also discussed the situation in Somalia and the UN's partnership with NATO.
