Following up on his briefing to the Security Council, the Secretary-General continued to reach out to world and regional leaders on Saturday to discuss developments in Libya and to ask them to help with the international effort for swift concrete action.

In his telephone conversation with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, the Secretary-General briefed the King on United Nations efforts to quell the violence and bloodshed in Libya and to hold those responsible to account. The Secretary-General underscored Saudi Arabia's key religious and political role in the region.

In his telephone call with Prime Minister Berlusconi of Italy, the Secretary-General discussed the options available to handle the crisis and asked for Italy's continued support and proactive role for decisive action.
