The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, Prime Minister and Head of Government, and Minister for Defence, National Security and Environment of the Kingdom of Lesotho, as well as members of the Cabinet of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The Secretary-General recognized the efforts that Lesotho had made towards peace and stability. He commended the Prime Minister and his government for its commitment to implementing reforms that will address governance challenges that the country has endured for decades.
The Secretary-General acknowledged the challenges the Kingdom continues to face as a landlocked country. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting the Government of Lesotho in efforts aimed at meeting its long-term development aspirations.
The Secretary-General committed to continue advocating for a review of the international financial architecture so that countries like Lesotho can access affordable finance to implement sustainable development programmes.
