The Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), H.E. Mr. Sérgio França Danese of Brazil, will undertake a visit to São Tomé and Príncipe from the 13 to 15 May 2024 at the invitation of the Prime Minister, H.E. Mr. Patrice Trovoada. The President of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), H.E. Mr. Gilberto Da Piedade Verissimo; the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Africa and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa, Mr. Abdou Abarry; and the United Nations Assistant Secretary General of Peacebuilding Support, Ms. Elizabeth Spehar, will accompany the Chair.

The visit builds on the PBC meeting on São Tomé and Príncipe, held on 15 January 2024, during which the Government shared its resolve to consolidate peace and stability in the country by notably reforming its justice and security sectors.

During the visit, the Chair intends to engage and consult with national and regional stakeholders in São Tomé as well as partners on ways to mobilize further support and technical cooperation to help the Government deliver on these reforms and consolidate São Tomé and Príncipe’s peacebuilding gains.
