2. The meeting recalled that since 2006, under the chairmanship of Norway, followed by Sweden and since 2009, Switzerland, the Burundi configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission has brought together UN and regional actors, international and regional financial institutions as well as representatives of civil society, in order to mobilise the support of the international community for peacebuilding and sustainable development in Burundi.
3. The Commission welcomes the support that the configuration has given to national priorities while applying a holistic approach. The Commission notes that the work of the Burundi configuration allowed for the integration of the perspectives and experiences of the various stakeholders in Burundi, including women and youth, including representatives of political parties, religious institutions, civil society and the private sector. The Commission takes note of the significant progress made by Burundi and its commitment to a policy of openness, peace and reconciliation, to cooperation with its bilateral and multilateral partners and to protecting and promoting human rights.
4. The Commission takes note that the Government of Burundi has decided, in view of the maturity of the configuration and in order to allocate the Commission's resources to new contexts requiring its attention, to bring the Burundi configuration to a close on 31 December 2022 and thus reflect the evolution of the relationship of the Government of Burundi with its multilateral partners and the Peacebuilding Commission.
5. The Commission also takes note of the deep appreciation of the Government of the Republic of Burundi for the multifaceted and multidimensional support since 2006 and welcomes Burundi's commitment to maintain contacts within the framework of the Commission to share its experience and lessons learned in peacebuilding and reconciliation. It encourages Burundi to share its national experience in other contexts and to continue its dialogue with its multilateral partners on peace issues.
6. The Commission will maintain its commitment and support to Burundi’s national efforts for sustainable socio-economic development and expresses its gratitude to Norway, Sweden and Switzerland for the work done, which has highlighted the Commission's advisory, bridging and convening role over the past 16 years.
