The Secretary-General strongly condemns yesterday’s attack by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) against a patrol of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Tessalit, Kidal region, which resulted in the death of four Chadian peacekeepers. 

The Secretary-General conveys his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Chad and his sympathies to the families of the victims. He wishes a speedy and full recovery to two peacekeepers also wounded in the attack. 

The Secretary-General recalls that attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law. He calls on the Malian authorities to spare no effort in identifying the perpetrators of this attack so that they can be brought to justice swiftly. 

The Secretary-General reaffirms the solidarity of the United Nations with the people of Mali.

Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement l’attaque perpétrée hier avec un engin explosif improvisé contre une patrouille de la Mission multidimensionnelle intégrée des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation au Mali (MINUSMA) à Tessalit, dans la région de Kidal, qui a entraîné la mort de quatre Casques bleus tchadiens.

Le Secrétaire général présente ses sincères condoléances au Gouvernement et au peuple tchadien et exprime sa sympathie aux familles des victimes. Il souhaite un prompt et complet rétablissement aux deux Casques bleus également blessés au cours de l'attaque.  

Le Secrétaire général rappelle que les attaques visant les Casques bleus des Nations Unies peuvent constituer des crimes de guerre en vertu du droit international. Il appelle les autorités maliennes à ne ménager aucun effort pour identifier les auteurs de cette attaque afin qu'ils soient rapidement traduits en justice.

Le Secrétaire général réaffirme la solidarité des Nations Unies avec le peuple du Mali.
