The Secretary-General virtually met with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China.

The Secretary-General thanked China for its contribution to the United Nations, including in the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, peace and security issues, and peacekeeping. The Secretary-General also congratulated Foreign Minister Wang as Beijing celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the People’s Republic of China’s membership of the United Nations.

The Secretary-General conveyed UN´s willingness to strengthen its cooperation with China in a number of fields, notably development, climate, biodiversity, peace and security and human rights.
