The Secretary-General met with Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed Abd al-Aziz Ghandour, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan. The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed efforts to resume peace talks to end the conflict in Darfur and the need to create a conducive environment for the opposition to join an inclusive political process in Sudan.
 
The Secretary-General encouraged Sudan to continue efforts to resume a political dialogue on Abyei and find a peaceful settlement to the border area.
 
The Secretary-General took note of the significant decrease in armed conflict in Darfur and underlined the importance of continuing the good cooperation between the United Nations and the Government in implementing UNAMID’s reconfiguration and new concept of operations.
 
The Secretary-General commended Sudan for its long tradition of maintaining open borders to receive refugees and for opening corridors for humanitarian assistance to South Sudan.
