The Secretary-General welcomes the resolution adopted today by the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) reinstating Honduras into the regional organization.

He welcomes the efforts of the Member States that helped find a solution. In particular, those of the Governments of Colombia and Venezuela which facilitated the Cartagena Agreement on “national reconciliation and consolidation of the democratic system in Honduras.”

The Secretary-General is hopeful that today's developments at the OAS and the upcoming report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission will contribute to healing the wounds of the recent past and to bringing the people of Honduras together once again.

El Secretario General acoge positivamente la resolución adoptada hoy por la Asamblea General de la Organización de los Estados Americanos (OEA) reinstituyendo a Honduras en la organización regional.

Celebra los esfuerzos de los Estados Miembros que ayudaron a encontrar una solución. En particular, los esfuerzos del Gobierno de Colombia y Venezuela que facilitaron el Acuerdo de Cartagena sobre "la reconciliación y consolidación del sistema democrático en Honduras".

El Secretario General tiene la esperanza de que los acontecimientos de hoy en la OEA así como el próximo informe de la Comisión de la Verdad y la Reconciliación contribuirán a sanar las heridas del pasado uniendo de nuevo al pueblo hondureño.
