The arrangements proposed by the African Union on 6 October, which have been endorsed by the United Nations Security Council, provide a clear framework for the governance arrangements and for moving the peace process in Cote d'Ivoire after 30 October.
In light of the tragic loss of his wife, President Obasanjo of Nigeria has not yet been able to travel to Cote d'Ivoire to consult with all the Ivorian parties on the implementation of the AU decision and Security Council resolution 1633 (2005), including on the appointment of a new Prime Minister. I am, however, in close contact with the President and will extend all the necessary support to him on these consultations.
In the meantime, I call on all the Ivorian parties and their followers to refrain from any actions that might create tensions and to remain committed to the ongoing process aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability to their country. I also urge them to continue cooperating with their international partners under the current political arrangements, pending the upcoming mission by President Obasanjo to Côte d'Ivoire.
Les dispositions proposées par l'Union africaine le 6 octobre, qui ont été entérinées par le Conseil de sécurité, offrent un cadre clair pour la gouvernance du pays et pour faire avancer le processus de paix en Côte d'Ivoire après le 30 octobre.
En raison de la perte tragique de sa femme, le Président Obasanjo du Nigeria n'a pas pu se rendre en Côte d'Ivoire pour consulter toutes les parties ivoiriennes sur la mise en œuvre de la décision de l'Union africaine et de la résolution 1633 (2005), y compris la nomination d'un nouveau Premier Ministre. Je suis cependant en contact étroit avec le Président et lui fournirai tout le soutien nécessaire pour ces consultations.
Dans cette attente, j'appelle toutes les parties ivoiriennes et leurs partisans à éviter toute action susceptible de créer des tensions et à rester engagés dans le processus de paix en cours, dont l'objectif est de rétablir une paix durable et la stabilité dans leur pays. Je les invite également à continuer à travailler avec leurs partenaires internationaux dans le cadre des arrangements politiques actuels, dans l'attente de la prochaine visite du Président Obasanjo en Côte d'Ivoire.
