Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with Mr. Hadi Al-Bahra, President of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces

The Secretary-General met with Mr. Hadi Al-Bahra, President of the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces (“Syrian Opposition Coalition”). They discussed the devastating situation in Syria, with its horrifying level of human suffering.

The Secretary-General noted that the conflict in Syria has deep political roots and can only be resolved through a credible political process. The start of dialogue was essential. They agreed that a political solution is urgent and crucial in order to resolve the Syrian conflict and address the growing humanitarian needs in a sustainable manner.

The Secretary-General hoped that the Syrian Opposition Coalition would have a cooperative engagement with his Special Envoy for Syria, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, and his Deputy Special Envoy, Mr. Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy.
