The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, President of the Republic of Serbia.
The Secretary-General commended Serbia for its efficient response to the unprecedented floods. In the context of yesterday’s Climate Summit, the President underscored the link between such natural disasters and climate change.
The Secretary-General and the President exchanged views on Serbia’s EU integration process, as well as on the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
They also discussed developments in the Middle East and their ramifications beyond the region, the global scope of the fight against the Ebola virus and the situation in Ukraine.
The Secretary-General and the President also discussed cooperation between the United Nations and Serbia, including the latter’s role in peacekeeping, as well as Serbia’s upcoming Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
