The Secretary-General met today, 5 December, with H.E. Aliakbar Salehi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic republic of Iran.

The Secretary-General reiterated Iran's important role in the consolidation of peace in Afghanistan and development in the region as a whole. He reviewed the latest developments inside Afghanistan as well as regional and multilateral efforts to support the peace and reconciliation process in the country.

The Secretary-General also underscored the need for all member states to adhere to Security Council and I.A.E.A. resolutions in order to contribute to global security.
