Statement Attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on terrorist attack in Nairobi

The Secretary-General condemns the terrorist attack carried out today by assailants at a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya, which has killed scores of people and wounded many more. This premeditated act, targeting defenceless civilians, is totally reprehensible.

The Secretary-General extends his deeply felt condolences to the families of the deceased and the wounded, as well as to President Uhuru Kenyatta, with whom he spoke by telephone earlier today.  He trusts that those responsible for this attack will be brought to justice.  The United Nations stands in solidarity with the Kenyan people at this time.
