Le Secrétaire général suivra de très près le second tour des élections présidentielles en Guinée-Bissau, qui sont un signe important de l'engagement national pour un processus démocratique et la réconciliation nationale. Il exhorte le peuple de Guinée-Bissau à voter dans le calme comme ce fût le cas pendant les élections précédentes. Il appelle les candidats à l'élection présidentielle à résoudre tout différend qui pourrait survenir par des moyens pacifiques et légaux, et à respecter les résultats finaux.

Le Secrétaire général espère que ces élections marqueront un pas décisif vers la stabilité politique et la sécurité en Guinée-Bissau, ainsi que dans la promotion des conditions socioéconomiques nécessaires à la consolidation de la paix et à la pleine réalisation des droits humains dans tout le pays. Les Nations Unies sont engagées à travailler avec le futur Président élu et son gouvernement, ainsi qu'avec l'Assemblée Nationale et les autres autorités nationales, pour réaliser davantage de progrès en Guinée-Bissau à travers le dialogue et la réconciliation nationale.
