The Secretary-General welcomes the appointment of Mr. Charles Konan Banny as the Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire for the transition period. The Secretary-General congratulates the Ivorian parties on this important first step in implementing the African Union decision of 6 October 2005 endorsed by the Security Council in its resolution 1633 (2005). He is particularly grateful to Presidents Obasanjo, Mbeki and Tandja, who contributed so much to this decision.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Secretary-General urges the parties to cooperate fully with Mr. Charles Konan Banny and encourages his Government to move without delay, working with the International Working Group to implement the roadmap for the transition period and interacting with the High Representative for the elections to resolve the stalemate in the Independent Electoral Commission.

Le Secrétaire général se félicite de la nomination de M. Charles Konan Banny au poste de Premier Ministre de la Côte d'Ivoire pour la période de transition. Le Secrétaire général félicite les parties ivoiriennes de cet important premier pas vers la mise en œuvre de la décision de l'Union africaine du 6 octobre 2005 endossée par le Conseil de sécurité dans sa résolution 1633 (2005). Il est particulièrement reconnaissant aux Présidents Olusegun Obasanjo du Nigeria, Thabo Mbeki de l'Afrique du Sud, Tandja Mamadou du Niger, qui ont tant contribué à cette décision.

Le Secrétaire général exhorte les parties à coopérer pleinement avec M. Banny et encourage son gouvernement à se mettre au travail sans délai et, avec le Groupe de travail international, à mettre en œuvre la feuille de route pour la période de transition, ainsi qu'à travailler avec le Haut représentant pour les élections afin de résoudre le blocage au sein de la Commission électorale indépendante.

Le Secrétaire général félicite également le Premier Ministre sortant, M. Seydou Diarra, pour les efforts importants qu'il a consentis pour la cause de la paix dans son pays.
