The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Jimmy Morales, President of Guatemala. The Secretary-General praised the National Dialogue on the Reform of the Justice Sector as proof of the commitment of the three branches of the State to strengthen the rule of law. 

The Secretary-General welcomed steps taken by Guatemala to address the root causes of migration and encouraged President Morales to strengthen efforts to protect the human rights of migrants and returnees. The Secretary-General saluted President Morales’ support for the work of the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) and welcomed the extension of CICIG’s mandate through September 2019.
