The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Joachim Gauck, President of Germany.
The Secretary-General and the President discussed developments related to the Syria conflict, including the Geneva discussions. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Germany’s strong support for resolving the Syria crisis and, in particular, the humanitarian assistance provided to refugees and the internally displaced.
They also discussed the imperative of halting the downward spirals in security and human rights in the Central African Republic and the need to provide continuing support to Mali.
The Secretary-General and the President also discussed the work on the Post-2015 development agenda, climate change and the contributions by Germany to those deliberations. The Secretary-General thanked the President for Germany’s active engagement in international efforts to prevent atrocity crimes and for its support to his Special Adviser for the Responsibility to Protect.
