Readout of the Secretary-General's meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Minister of external Affairs S.M. Krishna of India

The Secretary-General met separately today with H.E. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and H.E. Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna of India.

They exchanged views on the Arab Spring, specifically Syria, Sudan and South Sudan, counter-terrorism and cooperation on anti-piracy.

The Secretary-General also discussed with the Indian leaders regional issues, including Myanmar, the Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and India’s relations with Pakistan.

They exchanged views on sustainable development, especially the upcoming Rio+20 Summit, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), human rights, and women’s and children’s health, and UN reform.

The Secretary-General thanked the Indian leaders for the country’s valued cooperation on many UN issues and for its generous contribution to peacekeeping operations and the UN Democracy Fund.
