Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of the Republic of Indonesia. He welcomed Indonesia's exemplary progress on democratic governance and discussed ongoing efforts in this regard.

The Secretary-General and the President looked forward to the adoption at the 4th ASEAN-UN Summit of the “Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Partnership between ASEAN and the UN.” In this connection, the Secretary-General conveyed his gratitude to the President for his personal leadership on the matter.

The meeting also touched on regional and other issues of common interest, such as the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, Myanmar, -Timor-Leste, climate change and the Millennium Development Goals.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for Indonesia's important contributions to United Nations, in particular to peacekeeping operations.
