Readout of the Secretary-General's Meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao

On the first day of his visit to Beijing, the Secretary-General met with Chinese President Hu Jintao. They discussed a wide range of issues, including climate change, the Millennium Development Goals, the Korean Peninsula and Africa. The Secretary-General noted that China could play a greater role in peacekeeping and in the search for political solutions to African crises, including in Somalia and Sudan. The president expressed his strong support for the United Nations, and in particular the efforts of the Secretary-General in many of these areas.
