Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with the Foreign Minister of China

The Secretary-General ended the first day of his visit to Shanghai with a meeting with the Foreign Minister of China Yang Jiechi. During a warm and friendly encounter, they discussed ways of expanding China- UN cooperation further. They exchanged views on moving forward international efforts on climate change and making progress on Millennium Development Goals with a particular focus on sustainable development. The Secretary-General raised the need for political support by member states for the newly created UN Women. In addition to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, the Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed the situation in the Korean Peninsula, Myanmar, and Sudan. They agreed to continue their discussion in Beijing in the coming days.
