The Secretary-General and Ms. Livni discussed the direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and agreed on the importance of their continuation. The Secretary-General reiterated his call on Israel to extend its settlement moratorium.
They reviewed the situation in Lebanon, and in the region, including the implementation of resolutions 1559 and 1701. While concern was expressed at reports of Hizbollah rearmament, the Secretary-General has urged respect for the Blue Line by all parties. He further called on Israel to cease its overflights of Lebanese territory and expressed the hope that progress could soon be realized on Ghajar.
The Secretary-General and Ms. Livni also had a brief tête-à-tête.
